The City of Pascagoula has put up new retaining walls to protect the water supply in case of disaster.

The photo above is an example of one of the walls at Bayou Cassotte's treatment plant.

One hundred percent of the hazard mitigation money paid for three separate walls to go up in Pascagoula.

JC holds “Grand Opening” of new Services Complex on Dec. 15

The “Grand Opening” of the new Jackson County Services Complex is Thursday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m. in Downtown Pascagoula.

Jackson County Supervisors will be joined by representatives from the Governor’s Office, MS Development Authority, the City of Pascagoula, and community leaders for a ribbon cutting ceremony which will officially open the 65,000 square foot facility.
 
“Our employees are thrilled to be moving back to Downtown Pascagoula,” Board of Supervisors President Melton Harris, Jr., explained.

Jackson Co. announces intermittent closures during move into new Services Complex

Jackson County is announcing intermittent office closures throughout November and December as more than 120 employees across 16 departments move into the new Services Complex in Downtown Pascagoula.

The first department to close will be the Pascagoula and Ocean Springs Tax Collector Offices on Friday, Nov. 18. Employees will work through the weekend getting their office and computer systems set up and are tentatively scheduled to reopening to the public on Monday, Nov. 21.

The remaining departments are scheduled to move incrementally throughout next month.

Application deadline approaching to apply for $50,000 in literacy grants to MS nonprofits

Verizon Wireless, MISSISSIPPI – The September 1 deadline is quickly approaching for Mississippi nonprofits to apply for a total of $50,000 in grants to support literacy programs from the Verizon Foundation.

Grants will support projects that:
• Enhance GED and/or adult literacy programs.
• Support pre-k and/or k-12 literacy programs.
• Use resources from the Thinkfinity Literacy Network for programs for families and adult learners.
• Improve literacy skills for a particular group or individuals.
• Target under-resourced communities.

Jackson County announces Labor Day Holiday schedule

Jackson County-The Jackson County Board of Supervisors is closing a majority of County offices on Monday, September 5 for Labor Day. There are, however, plenty of County recreational facilities that residents can enjoy throughout the holiday weekend.

All of the County’s 24 boat launches, 12 public parks, and three splash pads will be open the entire holiday weekend. The splash pads are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day. The splash pads recycle their own water and are activated by tapping a red post on the edge.

Republican women's group hosting statewide candidate forum and debate watch

The Jackson County Republican Women's group  and the Jackson County Republican Executive Committee will be sponsoring a Republican statewide candidate forum & gubernatorial debate watching party.

The group has invited State Republican candidates to speak from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. and at 7 p.m. there will be a television hook-up to watch the debate between Mississippi candidates for governor.

This will be held at Indian Point Resort in Gautier. Food will be available for purchase. There will be no charge for coming to the forum.

Construction is about to begin on three new hurricane shelters in Jackson County. Each shelter comes with a $3 million price tag, but luckily two federal agencies will be taking care of a majority of the tab.
