Pascagoula high's first black female valedictorian furious over "compete to speak" rule
PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX)- Pascagoula high's first black female valedictorian and her family are furious over a school procedure they claim is antiquated and unfair.
Currently, the high school is the only one in the district that requires the valedictorian to "compete to speak" at graduation. Moffett's family and friends said it's time for the rules to change.
"As valedictorian, no matter what race you are, you should be able to speak. It is sad no one else has pushed it further." Moffett said.
